Feel Good About Hiring Me

I've spent thousands of hours working on writing and design projects because I love my work. I imagine you're reading this and considering whether to hire me because you’d rather spend your time doing something you love, not writing or creating a web site.

The reality of life is that you only have 24 hours in a day. Spend them doing things you enjoy. The good news is that I can do the work I love and help you at the same time!

How I Work

Here are some rules I work by.
  • I take pride in creating well-written, well-designed projects. This translates into results that both you and I can feel good about.
  • I love working with people who are passionate about what they do.
  • I believe in personal, one-on-one service.
  • I try to be as flexible as possible so I can give you exactly what you want.
  • I try to learn everything possible about what you do. The more I can immerse myself in what you do, the better the results.
  • I don't believe in bureaucracy. If you have a question or a concern, all you have to do is talk directly to me.
  • I don't tell you what you need, nor do I push things you don't need. During our initial conversations, you and I will discover the right solutions for you and your audience and the plan to bring that to life.
  • I like to teach. My goal with every project is for everyone to learn something new.
  • I believe no idea is stupid. Seriously.

Why me and not some big company?

I believe being a one-man show allows me to offer you services and a personal touch you might not otherwise get, and at an affordable cost, too.

Because I produce my own work, I don't have to hold meetings with myself, bill time for an entire design team, or deal with time-wasting conversations in the break room. I don't work out of a fancy office building. My office furniture includes two folding banquet tables, two sets of drawers that even Goodwill wouldn't take, and an office chair that has spanned two millennia. My other office chair came from a yard sale. I decorate my office with my son's drawings and pictures of my family and friends.

The bottom line is that I focus my time, energy, and resources on producing great work. Running my own business makes me disciplined and streamlined.

Some people are understandably skeptical about individuals working out of a home office. Here’s why I hung out my own shingle and decided to work out of my own home.
  • I like being home so I can watch my son grow up.
  • My commute is 25 feet. In the Internet age, I don’t see the point in commuting somewhere, polluting the air, and using up fossil fuel.
  • I work directly with clients and have no internal red tape to deal with, so I can give clients exactly what they want.
  • It’s given me countless opportunities to learn and grow in ways unavailable to me before. I don’t have just one or two responsibilities; I have all of them.
  • I love a great challenge.
  • There’s never a dull moment.
  • It’s quiet. I don’t get pulled into useless meetings. No one sneaks the last cup of coffee and leaves the pot empty.
  • I tend to get good performance reviews from myself.
  • If someone could run their own business and work from home, well, why wouldn’t they?
Every day is a learning experience for me. I get to work with great clients who do outstanding work, and I learn from them. Hopefully, they learn something from me, too. If that’s not the ideal work environment, I don’t know what is.
